Your Support Matters

At 9 am on Monday, January 3, 2011, Mount Vernon Public Library opened its doors to provide service to patrons.

January 2012 hours are:


Adults - Monday through Thursday 9 am to 8:30 pm;

Children - Monday and Thursday 9 am to 8 pm;

Children - Tuesday and Wednesday 9 am to 6 pm;

Adults and children - Friday 9 am to 6 pm.

First Saturday of the Month  9am to 5pm

Other Saturdays and Sundays closed.


• The New York State Education Department mandates that Mount Vernon Public Library be open for a minimum of 55 hours a week.


• The Mount Vernon Public Library’s board of trustees is working to balance the retention of all staff against the library’s fiscal realities.

• The library’s staffing and hours of operation will be re-evaluated continually until the financial status of the library is stable and secure.

• The New York State Board of Regents, which charters all public libraries in New York State, requires that Mount Vernon Public Library operate as a school district library. As a school district library, trustees will be elected by the voters who will also vote to approve the library’s annual budget. The funds for the budget will be collected by the school district and turned over to the library trustees.

ArtsWestchester, the American Library Association, the Junior League of Bronxville, the Helena Rubinstein Foundation, University of the State of New York - New York State Education Department, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Target, the National Endowment for the Arts, theHome Depot, and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York have provided funding for Mount Vernon Public Library’s programs.
