The Hudson River Rug Hookers showcase their exquisitely crafted hand-hooked decorated rugs at the Mount Vernon Public Library. Under the leadership and tutelage of Marilyn Bottjer of Eastchester, the group of women revive the art form called America’s one indigenous folk art. Once, hooked rugs were primarily made to satisfy a practical need to give the illusion of manufactured carpets to rural homes. Today, the art form has enjoyed a great resurgence, with artisans crafting unique “paintings in wool”.
