The Board of Trustees of the Mount Vernon Public Library, in order that the library may operate and be administered in the best interests of the citizens it serves, publish and post these regulations applicable to all agencies of the library.
- No person shall destroy, injure,or deface any property or materials belonging to the library.
- Any person abusing or threatening to abuse other patrons or members of the staff may be expelled from the premises at once.
- No person while on the premises of the library shall conduct himself in a violent, riotous, or disorderly manner, or use abusive, obscene, or profane language, or engage in lewd conduct, or disturb any public meeting or assembly, or be found under the influence or alcohol or drugs in a condition as to threaten the safety and rights of others. The library premises include not only the building, but the land area surrounding it, such as the front, rear, and sidewalks, and the parking lot.
- No person shall smoke in the library building or consume food or drink in the public areas of the library building.
- No person while on the premises of the library shall engage in disruptive conversation, conduct, harassment, or unruly behavior which inhibits the use of the library by other, nor shall any person refuse to obey the reasonable requests of an employee of the library. No person may use audio equipment without using earphones, which make the sound inaudible to others. If sound is heard, the patron must turn it off.
- No person while on the premises of the library shall obtain or attempt to obtain signatures to petition or conduct surveys or investigations or distribute printed material or unnecessarily disturb any person. No posters or flyers and other forms of material may be posted without the expressed permission of the Director. Solicitations for charitable, religious, or other purposes, selling of tickets, magazines, or merchandise of any kind are prohibited on library premises without the expressed permission of the Director.
- No person shall bring animals into the building, except for seeing-eye dogs, dogs used by law enforcement agencies, or any animals used in library programming.
- No person shall leave children unattended for any extended periods of time on library premises. The library is not a baby-sitting service. Parents are expected to look after their children while visiting the library with them.
- No roller blades, skateboards, or bicycles are permitted in the library by members of the public.
- The parking lot is for the exclusive use of the library staff.
- Use of the Electronic Equipment Policy will be followed at all times.
- Members of the public who violate these regulations may be expelled from the library premises or have their library privileges withdrawn by the Library Director. Person from whom these privileges have been withdrawn have the right to an appeal in writing to the Board of Trustees of the Library.
